A user on the GTAForums named FrankieLiberty leaked old Rockstar Games documents dating way back to 2001, claiming it was a protest against exploitation within the community.

The leak which got uploaded on the Internet Archive as 5 different file formats to download (Uploaded by Jane Doe on December 17, 2024)

The target of this action, known only as “John Doe,” is accused of profiting from stolen materials, such as internal documents and game assets, which he allegedly obtains from ex-developers. FrankieLiberty’s post details how John Doe resells these assets at inflated prices, sometimes to multiple buyers, while maintaining secrecy under the guise of protecting sources.

The contents of the leak in PDF files

The leak includes documents related to GTA San Andreas, GTA Advance, GTA Vice City Stories, and an early GTA Online design document, totaling 125 pages. FrankieLiberty describes the leak as a “Christmas gift” aimed to stop John Doe’s profit further, exposing years of alleged greed and manipulation within the Rockstar collecting scene.

Select ex-developers have made a killing off his sales while being entirely protected with him acting as a fence. John Doe has easily made tens of thousands of dollars, often times reselling the same asset priced at e.g. 2k dollars to 5 different parties.

That cannot stand AND shouldn’t stand any longer – John Doe has done enough damage, to his buyers, to Rockstar and to our whole community, by being a greed-driven, deeply irresponsible bad faith actor who thinks of themselves as the Robin Hood of stolen property, giving back to select few from our community, while really actually being the town’s slut for anyone who can pay the price.

Today some of John Doe’s assets will be devalued as he won’t be able to resell them any longer for profits, so to the community, here you may have internal documents for GTA San Andreas, GTA Advance, GTA Vice City Stories and last but not least, a GTA Online design document dated 2001.

He still sits on beta builds, production assets discs and a plethora of documents, ranging from design to some signed by company heads so his ties go deep – this is your chance to come clean, John Doe.

The documents have interesting findings such as an old GTA Online logo, company info, black and white game screenshots, drawings, references to Yakuza, and a look inside Rockstar’s game development. It also contains some sensitive information such as confidential financial data of payment schedules meant for ex-Rockstar founders Jamie King and Sam Houser.

Interestingly enough, this leak happened on Christmas Day, which one year before Rockstar Games had their GTA 5 source code leaked.
