Rockstar Games just released their summer update in GTA Online called the “Bottom Dollar Bounties” update, which revolves around catching criminals as a bail enforcement agent, also introducing a returning character from singleplayer, Maude, and her daughter.
One controversial change which was not announced by Rockstar was the change in the in-game chat. Features like the CEO and MC organizations names are now more censored; there already was a censoring system, but it now seems to have been more heavily enhanced.
This alteration has sparked a heated debate among players, with some expressing frustration over the increased censorship impacting their ability to express themselves within the game. 7joetaylor on Reddit saw his 8-year-long organization name “Drugs ‘n’ Stuff” reset, as “drugs” is now a banned word. This unexpected and significant shift in chat filtering has led to widespread discussions as players grapple with the implications of these controversial restrictions on their in-game interactions.
It’s quite ironic that a game about drugs, weapons, and stealing vehicles has words like “drugs” and “meth” prohibited from the game despite it being rated 18+. Even words like “ridiculous” are banned now as they contain the Spanish vulgar swear word “culo”. Other features like custom names for the Arena War vehicles, along with the in-game text chat, seem to have been affected.
