With the today’s big Grand Theft Auto 5 Source Code leak, many games have been mentioned in the code, including Max Payne, Red Dead, Bully 2, Midnight Club 4 and 5 (4 being MC: Los Angeles)
In the 2010s Spouse Letter to Rockstar Engadget.com reached out to their sources at Rockstar San Diego in which one source said:
“The management slowly dismantled the MC team for reasons unknown to most,” added another. When Engadget asked if there were any more Midnight Club games planned for development at Rockstar San Diego, Engadget was told, “At first, the team was told there was going to be another. That lasted a few months until the team was told, ‘Well, we’re going to do another, but it will be all outsourced … but there will be a core team of 5 – 15 people at RSSD working on it.’ Then, after a while longer, it was just not going to happen at all. Rumors abound about what will happen to Midnight Club, but Take-Two wants something soon because it was the second highest money maker for Rockstar.”
Proving that unfortunately Midnight Club 5 was in development for some time but later completely got axed by Take-Two and Rockstar to focus on other projects.
