The new Chop Shop DLC introduces us to Drift Races where players compete to see who can score the most points by having the longest drift chain, hit an object and you’ll risk losing all of your points and being dead last in the race.

Rockstar Games has published seven drift races at the time of this article. Having played all of the drift races we’re going to rank them from worst to best.

7. Beach Slap

By far the worst drift race in the Chop Shop DLC, you’ll think having probably the most space of all the races, it will be a fun place to have a drift race in. With the slippery sand and confusing directions on where to go, it’s hard to have fun drifting together without spinning out into the ocean or going the wrong way.

The only fun you can have in this drift race is watching your friend crash into a barrier, losing 250k points, and rage-quitting.

6. Highway Code

The Highway Code is just bland. The location is a bit questionable; the highway ramp to highway ramp doesn’t quite fit the drift race aesthetic. It’s odd, but we could’ve had a much more interesting place to drift instead.

The LS River is just a short walk away from there. Why not use that instead? It’s practically made for drifting with its flat area and the general vibe of street racing. The main issue with the Highway Code is the lack of challenging obstacles it has; most of them are tiny straight roads and tight U-turns. That’s pretty much it; the green zone isn’t challenging either.

The Highway Code is certainly not bad, but not good either. You can enjoy a drift session here; it’s just not that challenging and very bland in location.

5. Let Fly

Let Fly on paper looks perfect for a drift event, although it’s not that good. The track for Let Fly is set in LSIA, which is probably one of the good things about this drift race.

Even with the location, Let Fly is not a very challenging drift race; there are too many wide spaces that could’ve been used as obstacles. The positive side of this is that the green zone is somewhat fine. But even with the green zone, this drift race is just bland.

If you love drifting in a wide space, this is the drift race for you. I find it boring when you can drift in a much better drift race job.

4. Smoke and Mirrors

Who hasn’t thought of racing in Mirror Park? With the road layout of Mirror Park, it’s practically made for go-karting or a drift session, and Rockstar did well on this one.

With the beautiful view and unique road layout of Mirror Park, drifting in Mirror Park is very enjoyable. The obstacles are challenging, with lampposts and hard turns, especially in the green zone, where you can take a shortcut at the very narrow drive-through of Horny’s and an obstacle at the end of the lap that you need to avoid.

With a street so narrow, an accidental oversteer will crash you into an object and cause you to lose points. It’s best if you slow down once in a while, especially when turning in the cul-de-sac. Overall, Smoke and Mirrors are great drift race jobs. Drifting sessions here will be very enjoyable.

3. A Hill To Die On

A drift race down a hill is the best combination. With a long point-to-point drift race from the canyon down to the beach, it’s a very fun experience to see who can handle a drift without totaling out.

A Hill To Die On gives out a very strong Need for Speed: Carbon vibe when playing at night. With the street going downhill, it’s a challenge to go down without crashing; one wrong oversteer and you might lose a lot of points. The fun part of this is the hill, but after you go down, it’s a lot tamer; the only obstacle is maybe road signs. The green zone is not that extreme, with the only challenge being the usual zigzag kind of obstacle.

Overall, this is an enjoyable drift race. Great location and, great route, but the only downside is that the road leading up to the finish line is lacking in obstacles or anything fun to do.

2. Wide Berth

Wide Berth is a must to have a drift race on, while Hill To Die On has that Need for Speed: Carbon vibe. Wide Berth has a strong Need for Speed: ProStreet vibe, not only with the location but with the route layout.

Wide Berth has a unique set of obstacles, like trucks parked in the middle of the lane that you have to dodge and a sudden green zone that you could’ve missed. The location itself is screaming ProStreet. All you need to do now is modify that Annis ZR350 and become the Showdown King.

A fantastic drift race to have with a friend, You wouldn’t have a bad time here.

1. Textile City

If there’s a flawless drift race, it’s this one. Textile City is the best drift race as of right now. The most balanced and perfect one out of all of the drift races

Textile City, with probably the most balanced road layout of all drift races, is just perfect with its wide space drifting section, a very tight corner to stay controlled in, short but tricky turns, and a very unforgiving green zone. It’s stupidly easy to lose points in the tight section if you go a little bit too fast, and it’s also very easy for you to lose a multiplier if you go a little too slow. One small miscalculation, and it’s over for you.

Textile City is the perfect balance of easy and hard; it is no doubt the best drift race as of right now. Get a friend to have a drift session here and test your patience and skills.
